About Qatar

STATE Sovereign and independent located in Southwest Asia, occupying the small Qatar Peninsula on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Its sole land border is with Saudi Arabia to the south, with the rest of its territory surrounded by the Persian Gulf. A strait in the Persian Gulf separates Qatar from the nearby island kingdom of Bahrain.

Qatar is an absolute monarchy and its head of state is Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Born on June 3rd, 1980, is the eighth and current Emir of the State of Qatar. He is the fourth son of the
previous Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. He became Emir of Qatar on June 25th, 2013 after his father’s abdication. As of 2013, Tamim is the world’s youngest reigning monarch.

NATIONAL FLAG Maroon color with a broad vertical whites tripe at the pole, the two colors being separated with a nine-point serrated line.

CAPITAL CITY Doha accounting for more than 80 percent population of the country.

CLIMATE Qatar The Climate of Qatar can be described as subtropical dry, hot desert climate with low annual rainfall, very high temperatures in summer and a big difference between maximum and minimum temperatures, especially in the inland areas. The coastal areas are slightly influenced by the Persian Gulf, and have lower maximum, but higher minimum temperatures and a higher moisture percentage in the air.

POPULATION Inhabitants: Qatar’s population continues to swell with every passing year, having witnessed a massive increase of 9.5 percent compared to October 31, 2013 according to Qatar’s Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.

The total population numbered 2,342,672 at last available count on March, 2015.
